Exploring how climbing relates to child development — from coordinating movement to finding the confidence to try again.
Research concept · School-age children
We want to understand what changes alongside regular climbing, and how to distinguish its influence from other factors.
How do balance, coordination, and the ability to match movements to climbing holds change over time?
How might climbing relate to attention, planning a sequence of actions, and finding a solution?
How do children respond to a challenge, ask for support, and recognise their own progress?
Our proposed approach follows children over time, taking age, previous experience, and other activities into account.
